Metro Rhythm was created by John James and Keegan Lester, both poets from the Appalachian region who had recently moved to New York City. Inspired by the movement of people and cultures in New York, by vibration and sound, and by their own move from the more rural environments of Kentucky and West Virginia to an urban one, they chose to call this organization Metro Rhythm.

Metro Rhythm maintains this blog and runs a reading series for poets and writers in Brooklyn. Our current location is Brooklyn Fire Proof in Bushwick.  In the past, readers have included Mark Strand, Meghan O’Rourke, Timothy Donnelly, Dorothea Lasky, Mark Bibbins, and many others. We also have collaborated to hold events with various organizations, including Argos Books and Ugly Duckling Presse. In 2011 and 2012, we participated in Brooklyn’s POPSICKLE Festival, as well as the New York City Poetry Festival.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon.
